Sometimes a prototype's job is to make a real thing inevitable. The Arizona Sustainability Navigator started as a concept site this lab built for Tyler Butler of Collaboration for Good: a single-page vision of a tool that would make Arizona's sustainability resources navigable — organized, surfaced, and applied — instead of scattered and overwhelming.

The concept

The concept site made the idea concrete enough to react to: what the Navigator would feel like, who it would serve, and how an application flow would work — wired to a live intake form from day one, because even a concept should do something real when someone believes in it enough to click.

What it became

  • A published framework. The Arizona Sustainability Navigator was introduced publicly by the International Economic Development Council in "Turning Complexity into Action" (April 2026) — authored by Tyler Butler (Collaboration for Good) with partners at the City of Phoenix and the City of Surprise.
  • A real build. The project grew into a collaboration with the UAT Foundation, resulting in an internship — led by Tyler Butler — to create the production version of the Navigator. The concept did its job: it stopped being ours and started being real.

Why it's on the record

This is the lab's create-and-deploy capability pointed outward: an idea worth believing in, made tangible fast enough to gather partners around. The measure of a concept site isn't traffic — it's whether the real thing gets built. This one is being built by the next generation of builders, which is the best possible ending.
